The full set includes the RAVDESS audio, video, and audio-visual recordings. The audio-only or video-only option covers use of either the audio-only or the video-only recordings, but not both.

To qualify as a start-up your company should be privately held and have been in business for less than 5 years.

Commercial licence terms

Commercial use of the RAVDESS recordings requires an active commercial licence. For the purposes of this licence, "RAVDESS recordings" refers to the original audio, video, and audio-visual media files distributed as part of the Ryerson Audio-Visual Database of Emotional Speech and Song.

This licence applies only to use of the RAVDESS recordings themselves. It does not apply to models, model weights, embeddings, extracted features, annotations, predictions, statistics, software, or other outputs derived from the recordings, provided that those outputs do not contain or reproduce the original RAVDESS recordings or any substantial portion of them.

For example, if a commercial user trains a machine-learning model using the RAVDESS recordings during the term of a valid commercial licence, the resulting trained model and its weights may continue to be used after the licence term ends. The user is not required to maintain an ongoing licence solely because they continue to use that already-trained model.

However, an active commercial licence is required whenever the RAVDESS recordings themselves are used, copied, processed, or accessed for active commercial work. This includes, but is not limited to, retraining, fine-tuning, benchmarking, validation, feature extraction, quality testing, or other recurring workflows that make direct use of the RAVDESS media files.

Commercial users may retain archival copies of the RAVDESS recordings after the licence term ends, provided that the recordings are not used, copied, processed, accessed for active commercial work, redistributed, or incorporated into any commercial workflow unless a valid commercial licence is in effect.

Accordingly, if a commercial user periodically retrains, reprocesses, revalidates, or otherwise continues to use the RAVDESS recordings as part of an ongoing commercial workflow, the user must maintain an active commercial licence for the period during which those uses occur.

The commercial licence does not permit redistribution, resale, sublicensing, public posting, or incorporation of the original RAVDESS recordings into any product, dataset, model package, software distribution, or service unless expressly authorized in writing.

Academic and other non-commercial uses of the RAVDESS remain subject to the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International Licence, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
